School Proximity Data Now Included for All SPACE Users
Date:
We’re pleased to share an important update regarding school proximity data on the SPACE platform.
What’s Changing?
From 1st March 2026, Outsmart is covering the cost of the school proximity dataset for all companies subscribed to SPACE. This means the data, which is updated quarterly, will now be available to everyone at no additional charge moving forward.
Why this Matters?
By making this dataset universally available through SPACE, the OOH industry is taking a proactive, transparent approach to support restricted products such as HFSS, Alcohol, Vapes, Rolling Papers, Gambling and Lotteries compliance. School proximity data acts as a reliable proxy for identifying locations with higher concentrations of under?16s, helping media owners and buyers more confidently ensure that restricted products are not placed where a significant proportion of the audience may be children.
In the event of an advertising complaint made about a restricted product in OOH, the ASA take schools distance into account during their evaluation. The minimum prohibition distance is 100m from any point of a school boundary. You can read more here.
Where to Find the School Data
You can view school proximity information directly within the SPACE website and API. Here’s a quick guide for accessing the data on the website:
How to access the School Proximity Layer (via the website)
Click on a FrameID Scroll down on the ‘All’ tab View the school data section ? Here you’ll find the nearest school name and distance (in metres) for each category: Primary, Secondary, Special Needs, and Further Education.
You can also filter by specific distances to any category of school using the ‘Proximity’ filter on the left-hand side of the frame search page, in conjunction with any other filters.
Refunds for Companies Who Currently Subscribe
For companies that have already paid for access to this dataset, we’ll be in touch to arrange pro?rated credits for any portion of your current subscription that falls after 1st March 2026.
If you have any questions or need help navigating the school data, feel free to reach out.
We hope that subscribers to SPACE utilise this data to maintain OOH’s reputation for brand safety and trust.
Thanks
